A ribbon cutting for the new Senior Community Center of Owensboro-Daviess County is set for Oct.
1 as crews move furniture & contractors complete final interior adjustments.
Empty Bowls of Owensboro has begun selling tickets for its fundraiser dinner and silent auction to benefit Masonville Methodist Church and Third Baptist Church.
The event takes place Thursday, Oct. 1 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and features handcrafted bowls and soup provided by local restaurants and community members.
Contractors from Platinum Structures constructed a culvert to let water pass under the new bridge replacement on Tuesday at Browns Valley-Red Hill Road.
Owensboro and Daviess County High Schools will compete in the Big Red Blood Drive this week; parents and fans can donate during Western Kentucky’s Regional Blood Center hours (donors get a free t-shirt and the winning school will be announced at Friday’s football halftime).
The Owensboro Central Labor Council is set to host its 37th annual Labor Day Picnic on Monday at 11 a.m. at Hawes Park — a free community event where local families can gather.

Owensboro Museum of Fine Art will host a free Fall Break Art Camp for children ages 6 to 17 from Oct.
13 to Oct. 16. The camp offers art projects inspired by fall colors and cultural traditions during sessions in the morning and afternoon.
Barb Birgy, a longtime WBKR radio personality, celebrates 30 years on the air and recalls her journey from early days in Michigan to community events like Christmas Wish in Owensboro.
She plans to retire after the St. Jude Radiothon in February.

Last night, Apollo volleyball traveled to Owensboro and swept the Lady Devils 3-0 — winning 25-11, 25-12, 25-16.
Both teams will return on Thursday with Apollo in Logan County and the Lady Devils in Muhlenberg County.
The 2027 USA BMX Hoosier Nationals — featuring top BMX talent — will take place at Burdette Park in Owensboro next year, with local fans expected to see competitive racing.
The Lady Panthers earned a 3-0 shutout win over Owensboro in their season rematch last night.
Daviess County coach Paige Crisp said the team showed growth on offense and defense, and Owensboro will face Muhlenberg County on Thursday.
