COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Preservation Station in Owensboro will host a fall market on September 6th and 7th where more than 75 vendors will offer seasonal décor, antiques, food, and live music. The event will take place in a renovated school building that offers 40,000 square feet of shopping space — and the Family Restaurant will serve a Southern buffet.  WOMI Owensboro
  • Planning for the 87th Annual Owensboro Christmas Parade is underway with float and vendor registrations opening now with Early Bird fees of $50 for nonprofit groups and $150 for commercial groups until October 31st. The parade will take place on November 22nd at 4:30 p.m. with the theme 'It’s Christmastime in the City'—and organizers are calling for volunteer help.  WOMI Owensboro
  • A Big Red Battle between Owensboro High School and Daviess County High School is raising donations for the Western Kentucky Regional Blood Center—donations happened yesterday at Daviess County High School from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and are taking place today at Owensboro High School from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.  TriStateHomepage.com

  • Independence Bank said 77-year-old longtime manager Gary White died in a four-car accident along Dixie Highway in Louisville around 10 a.m. Sunday — his 18 years at the bank and support for local nonprofits left a lasting impact.  44 News

  • Turner and Son Wholesale started in Scottsville and opened the first Dollar General store in Springfield on June 1, a move that led to a chain with over 20,000 stores nationwide. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Daviess County Public Works has hired a contractor to resurface nearly 13 miles of county streets along KY-144 on the east side—including Brown Court, Hubert Court, Stewart Court, B&B Court, Dean Court, and their connecting alleys—for Fiscal Year 2025-2026. Additional work will pave Scythia Road, Millers Mill Road, Roy Wells Road, nearly three miles on Masonville Habit Road, and roads in the west along with two subdivisions at Friendly Village and Cedar Hills.  Daviess County
  • A contractor is paving county-maintained streets along KY-144 on the east side of Owensboro as Daviess County Public Works begins a project to resurface nearly 13 road miles in Fiscal Year 2025-2026—covering streets such as Brown Court, Hubert Court, Stewart Court, B and B Court, Dean Court and connected alleys. The project will also pave Masonville Habit Road from U.S. 231 to Millers Mill Road and plan additional resurfacing on Scythia Road, Millers Mill Road, Roy Wells Road, Old Lyddane Bridge Road, West 5th Street and two subdivisions at Friendly Village and Cedar Hills.  Daviess County
  • On Tuesday, city commissioners advanced an ordinance that would lift the ban on backyard chickens and let Owensboro residents keep up to six hens for fresh eggs while banning roosters. City Manager Nate Pagan said the proposal includes strict guidelines for coops — they must be predator-proof, ventilated and set a minimum distance from property lines—and residents will need a permit, with a final vote set for September 16.  The Owensboro Times
