COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Owensboro Times Pizza Week will run from September 19th to 28th featuring set-price pizzas and an interactive guide with rules, restaurant locations, and voting for tasting awards (including categories like The Supreme and The People’s Slice) that support local eateries.  WOMI Owensboro

CULTURE NEWS

  • More than 300 visitors and 140 vintage cars have arrived in Owensboro for the 79th AAA Glidden Tour—a celebration of classic cars—with stops planned all week. The public can view the vintage cars up close tomorrow at Dream Riders of Kentucky next to the Daviess County Fairgrounds from 9-10:30 a.m.  The Owensboro Times

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Owensboro-Daviess County Regional Airport is moving forward with a $2.5 million project to build 10 new hangars + repair 10 existing ones after more than 20 residents showed interest in storing their private airplanes. Board chairman Doug Hoyt said this is the first hangar expansion in nearly 40 years.  TriStateHomepage.com
  • Kentucky has launched a new website to help residents report scams — the site lets users sign up for notifications after Kentuckians lost over $74 million last year, according to Gov. Andy Beshear.  44 News
  • The Owensboro Parks and Recreation board met today to discuss a possible renovation for English Park—this riverfront park features a picnic shelter, amphitheater, playground, and boat ramp, and the board is gathering public ideas before finalizing plans for next year.  14 News
  • A Daviess farmer raised concerns Tuesday when work began on replacing the decking of the bridge on Old Hartford Road—spanning Panther Creek South in central Daviess County. The project is set to address his worries about rural bridge upkeep.  Owensboro Messenger-Inquirer
  • County officials said contractors are putting new beams in place for Panther Creek Bridge on Old Hartford Road near the south fork of Panther Creek. The work will finish by the end of September if weather permits — the road remains closed for safety.  14 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Owensboro Regional Suicide Prevention Coalition will host the 18th Annual Lifesavers Walk at Moreland Park on September 20 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM so community members can remember loved ones lost to suicide and access support resources—local mental health advocates and media will help spread awareness.  WOMI Owensboro

  • This fall, locals can learn to scuba dive at Blue Meridian Dive Center in Owensboro and later visit Pennyroyal Scuba Center in Hopkinsville for a quarry adventure—an exciting weekend getaway option to try a new twist on local recreation.  WOMI Owensboro

  • Daviess County won the City-County Championship at Ben Hawes Golf Course with a score of 312, beating Owensboro Catholic at 355 and Owensboro at 420. Claire Reynolds of the Lady Panthers won the individual title by shooting 69—Daviess County will regroup for the All-State tournament this weekend.  The Owensboro Times
