CULTURE NEWS

  • Kentucky Wesleyan College will host students from Cambridge University for a production of Macbeth on Friday, Sept. 19 and Saturday, Sept. 20 + the event will showcase a live performance of the classic play.  Owensboro Messenger-Inquirer

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Owensboro homeowners are advised to locate gaps such as chimneys or cracks where bats enter and use a one-way exit tube until the pests leave for hibernation, then seal the openings to prevent damage. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Non-profit organizations in Daviess County can apply for a fundraising opportunity tied to Christmas at Panther Creek at Panther Creek Park in Owensboro, where a holiday light display will run from November 28 to January 1. Five agencies will be picked at random to share half of the total event proceeds, and applications are due by October 15 — documentation of non-profit status is required.  TriStateHomepage.com

HEALTH NEWS

  • The scarlet velvet ant, a wasp also known as the 'Cow Killer', is found in Kentucky and Indiana and can give a very painful sting if handled, especially the female. It is not aggressive but is often seen in lawns, pastures & outbuildings, so residents should be cautious.  WOMI Owensboro

SPORTS NEWS

  • After trailing 28-6 in the third quarter, the Cougars fell 28-20 to Hart County as they tried to mount a comeback— they will travel to Webster County next Friday.  The Owensboro Times
  • Apollo quarterback Max Johnson, who recovered from turf toe, threw five touchdowns to help the Eagles beat the Hornets 42-14 in their season-opening game. Coach John Edge said the win positions the team for district play next week and marks their first victory of the season.  The Owensboro Times
