COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Christmas at Panther Creek will begin November 28 and run through January 1; nonprofit organizations in Daviess County can apply (by October 15) to be one of five selections to collect the $5 vehicle admission and share half of the total proceeds. Selected agencies will use their funds to support community services.  The Owensboro Times

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Natasha Conkright, an Owensboro business owner and Army veteran, was named Kentucky’s Vetrepreneur of the Year by Military Friendly – an honor that recognizes veterans who start businesses – and she owns an insurance firm covering home, auto, life and business policies. She expects national recognition later this month as a milestone for her career in entrepreneurship.  The Owensboro Times
  • Jay’s Good Grub, an Owensboro food truck, won Best Truck Theme and Design and a $500 prize at the Kentucky Food Truck Championship in Mount Vernon this weekend—its Dirty Diana Burger earned the award. Owner Jay Johnson said the win showed what Owensboro has to offer on a statewide stage.  The Owensboro Times

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Owensboro’s Western Academy launches a clothing brand called WANwear to help young men learn leadership and business skills. The new line will go on sale tomorrow + students will design and market the apparel in real-world projects with a local high school partner.  The Owensboro Times

SPORTS NEWS

  • On September 13, the Lady Panthers split a doubleheader—losing 1—0 on a buzzer beater to Evansville North and winning 3—0 over Evansville FJ Reitz—while McLean County tied Breckinridge County 2—2 and Owensboro Catholic won 8—0 over Todd County Central with Allie Marston recording a hat trick.  The Owensboro Times
  • Boys soccer on September 13 saw Owensboro tie 1-1 with Warren Central after Denis Juma scored a late equalizer and the team shifted tactics in the second half. In a separate match, Owensboro Catholic lost 4-3 on penalty kicks to Todd County Central—coaches said their teams learned from the games as they prepare for future matches.  The Owensboro Times
