COMMUNITY NEWS

  • This weekend, multiple yard sales are taking place along Hwy 54 and in local neighborhoods, offering a wide range of bargains on clothing, furniture, and collectibles. Many events in communities such as Philpot, Fordsville, and Whitesville will run from early morning until mid-afternoon—giving residents ample time to find hidden treasures.  WOMI Owensboro
  • Voting is open for Owensboro Times Pizza Week as locals try pizza creations and cast votes to crown the city's ultimate champion—comments are not counted.  The Owensboro Times
  • Daviess County pet owners will have the chance to get free microchip implants for their pets at Yellow Creek Park Shelter 2 on September 27 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and they must bring valid ID & proof of residency.  TriStateHomepage.com
  • The Owensboro Flea Market will return to the Convention Center starting Friday, September 26 with more than 250 vendor booths from across the region—running Friday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday from 10 p.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $2 with free entry for kids 15 and under, and free parking is offered in the lot and at the Locust Street garage for two hours.  14 News
  • Maria Kelly is running a donation drive for essential hygiene products as part of her 'We are She, She is Me' initiative to help local women maintain dignity; the event runs this weekend from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at three locations: Saint Pius X (3418 KY 144), New Life Church (400 Crabtree Avenue), and First Presbyterian Church (1328 Griffith Avenue).  The Owensboro Times

CULTURE NEWS

  • Kathy Mattea will return to Owensboro on Sunday, September 21 at 4 PM at the International Bluegrass Hall of Fame and Museum — marking her first performance in the city in 36 years after a memorable 1989 show.  WOMI Owensboro
  • Daymon Ward has built a nearly 50-foot pirate ship for Halloween at Deadwood Manor in Owensboro, which will open to the public on October 3rd at 4661 Thruston Dermont Road. The ten-minute interactive show will feature CO2 cannon blasts, rolling fog, and live fireballs—plus a returning haunted house display with extra surprises.  WOMI Owensboro
  • Local actor David Wolfe will lead Owensboro ghost tours starting October 3 from Ghostly Productions and on October 10 guests will visit Theatre Workshop—returning inside the building for the first time in ten years, with half the proceeds benefiting the theatre.  WOMI Owensboro

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The SONIC Foundation donated $30,000 to Tri-State public schools to fund classroom projects in honor of three local Sonic locations—recognized among the Top 50 nationally—and one local crew ranked in the top 12 will travel to Nashville next month to compete for the top title.  14 News

  • Owensboro Regional Suicide Prevention Coalition will host its 18th annual Lifesavers Walk on Saturday at Moreland Park—to raise suicide awareness.  Owensboro Messenger-Inquirer
