  • Fresh Start is a local nonprofit that helps women rebuild their lives with life-skills classes and job-readiness programs. Former participants now mentor others—Fresh Start needs more volunteers to support classes and community events.  Owensboro Radio
  • Empty Bowls of Owensboro announced that St. Benedict's Homeless Shelter is this year’s recipient of its annual soup dinner at Riverpark Center. The event will feature a handmade bowl, live music, and a silent auction—tickets go on sale Wednesday for $20 while it benefits local groups fighting hunger and marks the shelter’s 20th anniversary.  WOMI Owensboro

  • Red Swing Coffee is expanding by buying the Lizzie’s Diner building to open a new location with a larger kitchen and on-site parking—Brittany and Brandon Dukes will keep running their current shops as they decide whether to move their downtown spot. The new shop will offer the full menu of coffee, breakfast, lunch, desserts and bakery items while honoring Lizzie’s legacy as diner owner Elizabeth Thompson steps aside for health reasons.  The Owensboro Times

CULTURE NEWS

  • Owensboro native Keon Little is expanding his rap career—he is teaming up with hip hop royalty and following his own path in music.  Owensboro Messenger-Inquirer
  • Owensboro’s Molly Sperling is set to represent Kentucky on FOX game show The Floor, which premieres Wednesday at 8 p.m.—she went through interviews, quizzes, and background checks after submitting her application and now faces state-versus-state trivia duels where her category is paleontology.  The Owensboro Times
  • Comedian Jeff Dunham will perform his Artificial Intelligence tour at the Ford Center on February 25, 2026—tickets go on sale Sept. 29 at 10 a.m. through Ticketmaster or the Ford Center Ticket Office.  TriStateHomepage.com

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Since Monday, East 20th Street between Center and Pearl has been closed for sewer repair and it will remain closed for about two weeks, weather permitting—drivers are advised to avoid the area.  14 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Health officials confirmed a harmful algal bloom in Carpenter’s Lake in Daviess County—people and pets should avoid the water to prevent rashes, stomach pain, and breathing issues. Officials advise anyone who sees similar blooms to call the Kentucky Division of Water.  TriStateHomepage.com

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Owensboro Catholic Lady Aces reached the championship game of the All A State Tournament last weekend by beating Hazard 8 to 0 and Martin County 3 to 1 before losing 4 to 1 to Bishop Brossart, marking their first finals appearance since 2022 plus key players earned All A honors. Head Coach Meg Patton said the team pushed through a packed schedule and played strongly game after game.  The Owensboro Times
