  • Local contractor Matt Morris and his niece Brianna Lawrence are preparing to open Whitesville Wellness inside Whitesville Mercantile by early October and will offer smoothies, salads, and deli options with both indoor seating and an outdoor deck—featuring cornhole, live music, and games pending health department approvals. The venture aims to provide healthy choices and a welcoming space for community gatherings.  The Owensboro Times
  • Deaconess is hosting the 2nd Annual Breast Friends Survivor Walk on Saturday, September 27 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Deaconess Sports Park where survivors, families, and community members will join a free 1-mile walk—food trucks and prizes are part of the event to honor those battling breast cancer.  WOMI Owensboro

CULTURE NEWS

  • Harwood’s Art Mixer will bring together local artists tomorrow from 6 to 8 p.m. at Kentucky Sound Stage—5333 Frederica Street. The free event will offer food from East Coast Eats and conversation prompts to spark ideas and support a stronger creative community.  The Owensboro Times
  • Kentucky Sound Stage is inviting local talent with two new projects this fall — a casting call for a comedy improv troupe that will train under coach Christopher Lee Herod and a contest where one original show idea will be produced into a pilot; submissions are due November 1 and live auditions and pitches are scheduled for November 8 at the sound stage.  The Owensboro Times
  • An Owensboro writer recalled how his dad ordered burgers 'through the garden' at two local restaurants — O'Henry's on Triplett Street and Cornell's on New Hartford Road — where the phrase meant adding mayo, pickles, onion, lettuce, and tomato. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Owensboro Human Relations Commission will host public forums to get community feedback on adopting a local Uniform Residential Landlord and Tenant Act — URLTA — and if enough residents show support, the proposal will be sent to the City Commission and County Fiscal Court.  WOMI Owensboro

HEALTH NEWS

  • This morning, the Daviess County Fiscal Court confirmed a harmful algal bloom in Carpenter's Lake near Owensboro — a risk for pets and people — and the Kentucky Division of Water advised residents to avoid contact with the water.  WOMI Owensboro
  • The Green River District Health Department advised Owensboro residents to protect against mosquito bites as West Nile Virus cases rise. The CDC reported six cases in Kentucky this year — with three in the Green River District — and urged residents to eliminate standing water, use EPA-registered insect repellent, and wear long clothing outdoors.  44 News
