COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Opportunity Center of Owensboro announced Friday that Darren Peach has been named its new executive director—he will begin his role on Jan. 1.  Owensboro Messenger-Inquirer
  • Tomorrow, a ceremony will be held at 4 p.m. at the Gold Star Monument in Smothers Park to honor Gold Star Mothers and Families by the Brandon Scott Mullins Memorial Foundation and VFW Post 696. The event will include a flag presentation for Navy Petty Officer Jared Alan Craig, a 21-gun salute, colors ceremony, TAPS by the VFW Post 696 Color Guard, a school choir singing the national anthem, and remarks by his sister, and will move indoors to VFW Post 696 at 311 Veterans Blvd if bad weather occurs—everyone is invited—.  The Owensboro Times

  • Today at Brescia University, community leaders and members gathered at the NAACP Kentucky State Conference to discuss civil rights, equity and justice—Governor Andy Beshear joined to celebrate diversity and additional workshops and panels will continue tomorrow.  TriStateHomepage.com
  • The City of Owensboro announced street closures ahead of its Illuminate event on October 3 to 5—several downtown streets will close at different times for safety. On-street parking will not be allowed after 12:00 p.m. on October 3—drivers are advised to use designated parking garages or surface lots.  44 News
  • State Sen. Gary Boswell announced Friday that he will seek re-election to represent the 8th District—covering Daviess, Hancock, and McLean counties—as he vows to protect children, lower taxes, cut wasteful spending, and support local agriculture and roads. He said that recent events boosted his determination and that his previous unopposed campaign reflected clear local backing.  The Owensboro Times

SPORTS NEWS

  • Daviess County’s Ridge Roberts rushed for 186 yards on 28 attempts and scored four touchdowns, including a late 5-yard run that sealed the 29—20 win over McLean County. The Panthers built their game on a strong rushing attack — while McLean County fought hard on offense.  The Owensboro Times
