COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Wendell Foster has launched its annual bourbon raffle to support children and adults with disabilities. The raffle offers four prize packages including a rare 20-year-old Double Eagle bourbon and will sell 4,000 $25 tickets with the drawing scheduled at noon on October 31—ticket sales close at 11:59 p.m. on October 30.  The Owensboro Times
  • The third annual Harvest Festival is held today and Sunday at the Daviess County Lions Club Fairgrounds in Philpot, featuring crafts, food, nonprofit booths, games, live music + a Saturday pet costume contest with a $5 fee while admission is free and parking costs $5 per vehicle.  The Owensboro Times
  • Daymon and Kara Ward have built a free Halloween display at Brownwood Manor featuring a towering pirate ship that lights up nightly from 6–9 p.m. with 10-minute shows on Friday and Saturday at 7, 7:30, and 8 while donations directly support New Beginnings.  The Owensboro Times

CULTURE NEWS

  • Illuminate is a new art and light event on the Owensboro riverfront that runs all weekend with displays beginning at 6:30 p.m. and ending at 10:00 p.m. nightly—drone shows are scheduled at 7:15 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. with parking available at two garages for $10 cash only or free on the street.  14 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Kentucky Wesleyan College is hosting Homecoming and Family Weekend today to bring together alumni, students, and community members with live music, food trucks, campus tours - and sports. The planned events include the Magnuson Lecture Series with Connie White at 10:00 a.m. in Tapscott Chapel and a free Bash on the Lawn from 12:30-3:30 p.m. to celebrate the Panthers' legacy.  The Owensboro Times

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Kentucky Department of Revenue said the Owensboro Taxpayer Service Center will remain open even as the IRS office closes on Nov. 30 for federal cost-cutting measures. The center—at 401 Frederica Street—is open Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for state tax assistance.  14 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Health officials confirmed that a Daviess County resident died on Friday from West Nile virus & the state reported 19 cases this season compared with an average of 7 cases.  44 News
  • Kentucky health officials issued a statewide alert on Monday after a rise in mosquito-borne illnesses resulted in one death in Daviess County and 19 cases statewide—officials urged residents to take care to avoid mosquito bites.  14 News

  • Lexi Campbell and Melody Mourning started Coffee Crawlers 270 to share reviews of local coffee shops, meeting every Wednesday to invite women to try new flavors in Owensboro and nearby areas—helping local coffee lovers connect and choose their favorite spots.  WOMI Owensboro

SPORTS NEWS

  • Today, Owensboro Catholic quarterback Dre'mail Carothers threw three touchdown passes in a 41-14 win over Hancock County—his precise pass to sophomore Drew Miles set an early tone in a dominant district game.  The Owensboro Times
  • Owensboro's football team won 62 to 7 today with a balanced offensive attack as senior running back Evan Hampton rushed for 169 yards and scored three touchdowns while DaMarcus Ganaway Jr. threw for two touchdowns. The team will face Muhlenberg County at home on Oct. 17—aiming to build on this strong win.  The Owensboro Times
  • Daviess County football beat Central Hardin 58-8 Friday night after forcing turnovers early and scoring quick touchdowns—quarterback Garrison Barker threw 12 of 16 passes for 296 yards and four touchdowns. The Panthers now prepare to face Meade County next week.  The Owensboro Times
  • Today, Apollo won against Graves County by a score of fourteen to seven as Ross Milburn scored a touchdown plus JT Edge made a key play while the defense kept the opponent away. The team now holds a record of one win and one loss and will be off for Fall Break, returning October 17 to face Madisonville-North Hopkins.  The Owensboro Times
