  • Howl-O-Ween Happy Tails is a photo contest beginning October 15 that invites pet owners to dress up their adopted pets for a chance to win $1,000 for the shelter of their choice — the tri-state public will vote on the best adoption story.  WOMI Owensboro
  • Truck-A-Palooza is a free sensory-friendly touch-a-truck event set for Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 1101 East Byers Avenue at the Opportunity Center + a Quiet Hour from 10 to 11 a.m. helps guests who are sensitive to noise. If it rains, the event will be postponed until October 22.  The Owensboro Times

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Wonder Whip opened its second Owensboro location on Frederica Street Monday after a semi-private event on Sunday helped staff prepare for the full launch. The new location features two drive-thru lanes & outdoor seating and offers a streamlined menu while the original shop remains unchanged.  The Owensboro Times

CULTURE NEWS

  • ROMPtober Weekend will be held October 10—11 at the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame and Museum in downtown Owensboro—featuring live music from Green River Revue, Wood Box Heroes, Two Runner, RiverBend, and The Special Consensus along with craft tastings, workshops, and family-friendly fun.  The Owensboro Times
  • The inaugural Illuminate Art & Light Experience drew huge crowds downtown over a three-day run, and visitors and business owners praised the smooth planning and record turnout. City officials said they coordinated with downtown businesses, police and public works to manage the event and plan to bring it back in 2027.  The Owensboro Times

  • Two Daviess County Public Schools students have been named National Merit Scholars semifinalists, giving them a chance to win a National Merit Scholarship.  Owensboro Messenger-Inquirer

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Kentucky Transportation is repairing a culvert on KY 54 in eastern Daviess County on Tuesday and Wednesday, causing lane restrictions between the 9— and 10—mile markers near Philpot. Flaggers will guide drivers through the work zone from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day.  The Owensboro Times

SPORTS NEWS

  • Tonight at 6 p.m. at Owensboro High School, the girls’ soccer 9th District Tournament will begin with top-seeded Daviess County facing Apollo and Owensboro playing Owensboro Catholic for a championship spot—coaches highlight standout players like Mary Evelyn Wiman, Rebecca Jones, and Allie Marston as key to a competitive game.  The Owensboro Times
  • Owensboro and Daviess County are set to face off in the 9th District Championship on Wednesday evening at Owensboro Catholic High School after both teams secured spots in the 3rd Region Tournament for the fourth straight year; Owensboro won 2-0 over Apollo while Daviess County beat Owensboro Catholic 4-1.  The Owensboro Times
  • On October 2nd, Owensboro high school cheerleaders met world champion gymnast Maggie Nichols at Cheer Zone—she shared her training routine and experiences that led her to win gold with Team USA and earn top NCAA titles.   • Today, the Daviess County girls golf team, known as the Lady Panthers, arrived in Bowling Green and will tee off at 8 a.m. in a state finals tournament lasting two days after finishing second at semi-state; coach Jonas Billingsley said his team—who won four region titles in four years—aims to win their first state championship on fast greens.  The Owensboro Times
