- ➤ The Owensboro Fire Department invites artists of all ages to design its next official patch by including 'Owensboro Fire Dept.' and avoiding images of firearms, tobacco, or alcohol, with entries due November 7. The winning design will be worn by firefighters+and receive special recognition. The Owensboro Times
- ➤ Kim's Diner in Owensboro has launched its Christmas Wish Bike Drive 2025—residents can drop off new bikes or cash donations at 1212 East 18th Street to help local children get bicycles for Christmas. - ➤ Officials announced that artist Aaron Kizer will serve as grand marshal and retired battalion chief Steve Leonard will be honorary grand marshal for the Owensboro-Daviess County Christmas Parade on November 22 in downtown Owensboro — the event's theme is Christmastime in the City. - ➤ The city of Owensboro and local organizations are launching the Walk Owensboro initiative next week—designed to encourage residents to walk more and socialize. - ➤ Governor Andy Beshear said he received letters from 63 county judge/executives, 31 mayors and the Kentucky Association of School Superintendents that supported his Pre-K for All initiative, urging the legislature to make expanding access to pre-K care for all 4-year-olds a top priority in the 2026 Budget Session. - ➤ Governor Andy Beshear announced more than $5.6 million in state grants for six railway projects—one of which is a $441,245 award for Owensboro Riverport Authority that will fund the construction of new rail spurs and safety upgrades. The funds, provided through the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet’s Industrial Access and Safety Improvement program, will support improvements at industrial parks and manufacturing facilities. - ➤ Skyler Stewart was hired as the new Director of Community and Economic Development by the Green River Area Development District and will start on October 17 + she grew up in Owensboro and held previous roles at GRADD. Officials say her return from education and experience as a Business Liaison, Senior Infrastructure Planner and Planning Director will boost progress in a region covering seven counties and 27 cities.
