COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Daviess County Public Library Board on Wednesday appointed Kevin Dorth as its new chair and approved moving four books (Sex Plus, Queer, This Book Is Gay, and Flamer) from the young adult section to the adult section. The board will revisit its public comment policy and the future of the young adult collection at upcoming meetings.  The Owensboro Times

CULTURE NEWS

  • The musical Hadestown — after a week of cast rehearsals — will open at RiverPark Center in Owensboro this Friday with the first show starting at 7 p.m. The performance blends two mythical tales and takes the audience on a journey to the underworld and back.  TriStateHomepage.com
  • Magical Memories Character Co., a Daviess County business, will once again host the Royal Fall Ball—an event designed to create a fairytale world for families.  Owensboro Messenger-Inquirer
  • Owensboro native Brandon Cox has released his debut memoir, It Goes With You, which is based on his year-long climb of Mount Kilimanjaro—using the mountain as a symbol for his personal struggles and growth. ECONOMY NEWS

  • The Owensboro Riverport Authority was awarded over $441K for a railway project to buy a railcar mover—helping boost local economic development in Daviess County. Officials said the grant is part of over $1.6 million in state funds aimed at improving safety and creating jobs.  14 News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Owensboro High School’s boys soccer team led by coach Ryan Haley rallied from a halftime deficit to beat Daviess County 4-1 for their first 3rd Region Championship win since 2012—ending five tough attempts against the Panthers. The team will begin its State Tournament run on Oct 20th at 7 p.m. against the 2nd Region winner.  The Owensboro Times
