COMMUNITY NEWS

  • GRADSA will host its 28th Annual Buddy Walk on October 25th—starting with a 5K run from downtown Owensboro to Moreland Park and back—and then hold a local party featuring a silent auction, face painting and a petting zoo.   • The 4th Annual Howl-O-Ween Dog Contest will take place this Saturday at the battlefield in Sacramento—where costumed dogs can enter with a donation that supports the McLean County Animal Shelter. CULTURE NEWS

  • The Owensboro Area World Affairs Council celebrated 20 years at a recent reception and lecture on the WKU-Owensboro campus — the event featured Professor Matt Alschbach’s talk on global witchcraft histories and demonstrated the group’s shift to offering remote participation for busy families. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Owensboro Health Regional Hospital earned the EPA Energy Star certification today, marking its sixth straight year of showing top energy efficiency—achieving a score of 77 and saving over $5 million in utility costs through a 26 percent reduction in energy use.  The Owensboro Times

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Beshear announced on Monday that Kentucky will use $9.1 million from unused state funds to keep the Senior Meals program running after local agencies ran out of funds amid the federal shutdown. The state will support this month’s meal services—though funding for December remains uncertain until federal money resumes.  WDRB

  • Jody’s Inc. issued a nationwide recall of Cabot Creamery Sea Salt Caramel Cheddar Popcorn due to undeclared peanuts that pose a life-threatening risk—shipments reached Kentucky retail stores after being sent on July 23—and consumers are advised to return or discard the product.  WOMI Owensboro
