EDUCATION NEWS

  • Daviess County Public Schools has received a $500K federal grant to upgrade radio communications, improve bus navigation, and install additional security cameras at select schools—steps aimed at boosting student safety.  Owensboro Messenger-Inquirer
  • More than 1,000 students from Kentucky will gather at Daviess County High School as 12 high school marching bands compete in the Class 4A semi-finals for one of six spots to advance to state championships—teams that advance will travel to Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green for championship performances starting at 8 p.m.  TriStateHomepage.com

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Daviess County and Owensboro have halted applications for group homes such as rehabilitation centers and transitional housing in a one-year pause to address rising homelessness concerns. Commissioner Larry Condor said the moratorium aims to prevent shelters from overloading and that he will meet with local groups to find further solutions.  TriStateHomepage.com
  • The Daviess County Parks & Recreation Working Committee recommended adding a new barn at Pioneer Village at Yellow Creek Park, extending park hours seasonally and revising shelter rental times.
