COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Local residents are invited to vote in the Howl-o-Ween Happy Tails pet photo contest from October 24 to October 30 after pet owners submitted pictures and adoption stories of their rescued companions. The shelter with the winning pet will receive $1,000 from Robert John — Associates when the winner is announced on Halloween.  WOMI Owensboro
  • Crews from Taber Owens Construction began preparing the site at Ben Hawes Park for a planned pickleball complex earlier this week. The new venue will offer a fresh recreational space for local residents.  Owensboro Messenger-Inquirer
  • Christmas Wish will move to a larger space at Towne Square North and open its office to the public Monday, December 1, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday—Wish Letter submissions run from November 1 to November 29—and volunteer sign-ups begin on November 10.  WOMI Owensboro

  • Heaven Maddox is a local makeup artist who mixes self-taught techniques & a cosmetology degree to create special effects looks using latex, foam, & papier-mâché this October; she spends 3 to 8 hours on each transformation and shares her process live on social media to show her creative work.  WOMI Owensboro

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Owensboro Public Schools and RiverValley Behavioral Health teamed up to install new communication boards at Cravens Elementary—tools featuring colorful symbols to help students with speech challenges communicate better. The boards are already in use at five OPS elementary schools and Hager Preschool, and plans are in place to expand them to eleven city playgrounds through a partnership with Parks & Recreation.  The Owensboro Times

SPORTS NEWS

  • Kentucky high school marching bands will compete tomorrow morning in semi-finals for a spot at the State Championships, and winners will advance to finals later that night at Western Kentucky University’s L.T. Smith Stadium (in Bowling Green) with teams in Classes (A, 2-A, and 4-A).  14 News
  • Owensboro Catholic won 47-6 against McLean County in district play as Dre’mail Carothers threw five touchdown passes and led an offense that built a 28-0 lead by halftime—setting up a home game against Elizabethtown next week.  The Owensboro Times
