As the government shutdown continues, local groups and businesses in Owensboro are working to help residents who may face food insecurity when SNAP benefits are suspended from November 1 — with eateries offering free or discounted meals and nonprofits urging donations to meet immediate needs.

A new food truck called Twisted Pop’s has arrived in town serving twisted sodas made with Alani brand bases and flatbread pizzas topped with mozzarella and provolone cheeses.

The sodas come in fall flavors like Skeleton-Cider and Dracula’s Blood — and customers can add hot honey drizzle to any flatbread for an extra 25 cents.

The Owensboro Museum of Fine Art returns with its 48th Holiday Forest Festival of Trees this December—its tradition began in 1977 when the museum first displayed 17 festive trees.

Chrissy McPherson-Lee of McLean County spent six months to create a Halloween costume for her son Deegan—she used cardboard, paper mache, and thrift store finds to build his Predator outfit for about 10 dollars.

Deegan picks his themes by March and plans to use these costumes at Comic Con next year in Owensboro.
