COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Owensboro Public Schools is holding a food drive to help students, about 55 percent of whom are affected by the SNAP suspension after the government shutdown. Donations will be accepted from November 3—14 at local sites such as the Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce and Kim’s Diner.  TriStateHomepage.com
  • A family business, Stewart Promotions, has run flea markets in Owensboro for over 50 years and will host a Christmas shopping market at the Owensboro Convention Center from December 5—7. One week later, a free Kentucky Christmas Gift & Decor Show will take place at the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville from December 12—14 with over 750 booths and festive displays.  WOMI Owensboro
  • Preservation Station will host a Christmas Market on November 1 and 2 with over 100 vendors in a 40,000 square foot space where shoppers can enjoy handcrafted gifts, festive food, live music and Santa from 12 to 2 p.m. each day. The event will also feature a Thanksgiving Holiday Buffet on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and a Sunday Brunch Buffet from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.—offering extra holiday treats for families.  WOMI Owensboro
  • At the Silver Salute Celebration held at the Senior Community Center, local leaders were honored for their work helping seniors in areas like education, faith, and volunteer service — Terry Woodward received the first Community Hero Award among several honorees recognized for their broad contributions to our community.   • Today, Owensboro hosts the Trail of Treats event in the Smothers Park area—extending along Veterans Boulevard and West Second Street—from 5:30 to 8 p.m., as officials say over 90 local booths will provide families a safe space for trick or treating.  14 News
  • Habitat For Humanity Owensboro received a $100,000 grant from the Hager Educational Foundation on Thursday to fund a new neighborhood. Officials said the project will include 15 to 20 homes with half of the funds arriving next fall and the remainder in 2027 — a boost to create safe and affordable housing.  TriStateHomepage.com

  • Dave Kirk has been named the next president and CEO of the Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce after a national search that received over 60 applications — his local ties and extensive leadership work supported his unanimous selection; he will officially assume the role on December 8.  The Owensboro Times

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The first renewable natural gas facility in the Tri-State went operational after a ribbon cutting at the Daviess County landfill on Thursday — officials report it converts landfill gas into renewable natural gas for up to 11,000 homes while reducing greenhouse gas emissions and boosting landfill revenue.  TriStateHomepage.com
