  • A Facebook page started by a new mom grew into a trusted food assistance hub that verifies food pantries, blessing boxes, and free meal programs in Owensboro—helping residents find support in Daviess County. The nonprofit, led by Melody Mourning, aims to bridge the communication gap between those offering help and families in need.  The Owensboro Times

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Crazy Me Gifts & Apparel is hosting three holiday open house events at 235 East 20th Street with major sales and festive surprises, starting November 1 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.—the first event will feature artist Channing, followed by Dee’s Ribbon Truck on November 8 and local artist Corey Ziemer on November 15.  The Owensboro Times

CULTURE NEWS

  • Dr. Diane Earle, professor emerita at Kentucky Wesleyan College, helped organize a cultural exchange when the college hosted Ateneo, a Czech choir from Palacký University, as part of an Owensboro Sister Cities project—she coordinated event logistics and taught the choir songs including My Old Kentucky Home.  TriStateHomepage.com

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The government shutdown stretching into its second month has left Daniel Pitino Shelter and St. Benedict’s Shelter facing rising hunger as frozen federal nutrition programs force parents to skip meals for their children. The shelters have teamed up with local groups—Walker Consulting 20/20, Crossroads, New Life Church, and the Help Office—to collect food donations and ask lawmakers for immediate support.  The Owensboro Times

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Little Healer, opened by Michelle Wallace in September 2024, now gives Owensboro customers chemical-free products and a refillery system that reduces plastic waste. Wallace plans to expand the store into a larger space and add dry herbs and tea blends while hosting monthly vendor markets—supporting local small businesses.  The Owensboro Times

SPORTS NEWS

  • Ella Hall broke Owensboro High School’s record books by becoming the all-time assist leader with 50 and setting a new season record with 22 assists during an 8-1 win over Muhlenberg County on September 27—she practices in her front yard every Saturday to hone her skills and plans to build on her success next season.  The Owensboro Times
