- ➤ AAA warned that as cooler weather and shorter days set in, deer collisions in Kentucky will increase in October and are expected to peak in November and December. - ➤ The Owensboro Family YMCA will launch a new state-regulated preschool program on January 12 that offers full-day classes from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.—with aftercare until 5:30 p.m.—to help meet a critical childcare shortage for children ages 3 to 5. - ➤ Audubon Area Community Services now offers LIHEAP energy bill assistance to eligible households making up to 150% of poverty guidelines — a program to help with utility bills — with enrollment open until December 12th or until funds run out, and approved benefits are paid directly to utility companies after required documents are provided. - ➤ Hospice of Western Kentucky began in 1982 in Owensboro when local volunteers united to ensure that no one would die in pain. Today the organization provides hospice care, palliative care, and free grief counseling at home — supported by local nonprofits and businesses. The Owensboro Times
- ➤ Delays in monthly benefit payments have left vulnerable seniors without needed assistance and prompted Owensboro senior centers to serve more hot meals—County Aging Coordinator Carsten Tindle said the surge started last week and satellite sites in Adams Village, Park Regency, Roosevelt House, Garden Grace and Whitesville are helping meet the increased demand. 44 News
