- ➤ Michael Johnson grew up in Owensboro and joined the Navy at 17—serving 22 years on ships worldwide and taking part in missions that helped local communities. Now retired, he gives back through ministry, music, and nonprofit work, continuing to serve the town that raised him. The Owensboro Times
- ➤ Clay Taylor, an Owensboro native, survived an Apache helicopter crash in 125-degree heat on August 12 when his team was securing a suspected roadside bomb and he lost his leg; he rebuilt his life with surgery, rehab, and a new career in Owensboro, becoming a dedicated father and community role model over the past 20 years. - ➤ John Spalding from Owensboro led 32 soldiers on Omaha Beach on June 6, 1944 and earned the Distinguished Service Cross for his bravery. - ➤ Ole 60 was interviewed on Live at the Print Shop where they discussed their origins and their debut album Smokestack Town, recorded live in Franklin, TN (showing a nostalgic sound influenced by bands like Radiohead). - ➤ Dr. April Devine has been named the assistant superintendent of human services at Daviess County Public Schools—she joined from Hopkins County Schools where she served as director of pupil personnel and now pledges to build a student-focused environment that supports teachers and staff. - ➤ We Work the Waterways will host its largest-ever Maritime Interaction Day in downtown Owensboro this Thursday—linking about 300 high school students with maritime professionals from Kentucky and Indiana at the Owensboro Museum of Science and History. The event will offer live demonstrations and hands-on learning stations—helping students see how inland waterway jobs support local economies. The Owensboro Times
