  • Local hemp growers criticized a federal funding bill signed on Wednesday that ended the government shutdown, warning its low THC limit provision—set to take effect after a one-year transition—will force small producers like Clay Powell and Paul Glover to dilute their products or close their businesses after nearly a decade of growth.  The Owensboro Times
  • Local investors purchased KBio after it said it would close operations in Owensboro in April — the deal includes its name, patents and intellectual property. New owners Barry Bratcher, Martin Walker and former president Hugh Haydon will soon reach out to a global network to explore how to use the company’s assets in the coming weeks — a move that could create new opportunities for the town.  14 News
  • EM Ford Insurance celebrated its 100th anniversary this year at a Greater Owensboro Chamber event—held at its downtown office on Thursday night—and honored its long family legacy and growth. Fourth-generation co-owner Clay Ford said the firm started in 1925 as a small local office and now has nearly 50 team members with offices in Owensboro, Henderson, and Glasgow while it plans to grow further.  The Owensboro Times

  • Over 300 Owensboro high school students experienced hands-on career opportunities at the museum of science and history—interactive stations and maritime professional demonstrations taught them about shipping and logistics careers during We Work the Waterways' largest event.  14 News

  • Kentucky’s Energy and Environment Cabinet lifted the public health advisory for Carpenters Lake northeast of Owensboro after tests found toxin levels below detectable limits—rainfall and cooler temperatures helped lower the risk.   • Beth Bormann has been named assistant head coach for the Youth All-Girls USA Cheer team—working with long-term partner Jay Kirk—as tryouts progress.
