COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Owensboro Racing & Gaming officials announced that their first New Year’s Eve celebration will take place on December 31, where guests will enjoy free live music by DJ Shay and others—plus prizes including five winners receiving $100 Free Play, one winning $2,026, and a second drawing for $500.  14 News
  • Downtown Owensboro streets will close for the Owensboro-Daviess County Christmas Parade on Saturday, November 22 as closures begin at 2 p.m.—2nd Street from Greyhound Drive to Walnut Street and nearby side streets will be closed. The parade will start at 4:30 p.m.—Officials say the Daviess Street parking garage remains open via Veterans Boulevard while the Locust Street garage will remain closed during the event.  44 News
  • St. Benedict’s Shelter in Owensboro marked its 20th year by launching a 2025 Bed Sponsorship Campaign that asked residents, churches, and businesses to sponsor a bed for $500—each sponsorship will help fund expanded services and the upcoming Nehemiah Initiative in January. The campaign supports rebuilding lives and strengthening case management as it honors the shelter’s legacy.  The Owensboro Times
  • An Owensboro mother and her three children became first-time homeowners on Thursday thanks to a gift from the Alma Randolph Foundation and Habitat for Humanity—she celebrated her sobriety anniversary when she received the keys to her fully furnished home. CULTURE NEWS

  • Kentucky Wesleyan will host 'All Praise to Thee: A Festival of Lessons and Carols' on December 4 and 5 at St. Stephen Cathedral—featuring the Kentucky Wesleyan Singers, the Shepard Brass Quintet, conductor Hadley Rouse and pianist James Wells; ticket prices are $10 for the general public and $5 for seniors and students with ID.  44 News
  • Today, Owensboro begins the holiday season at 5 p.m. with the Hometown Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony downtown. The event features new festive lights & a Dancing Lights display every 15 minutes along key streets, along with attractions like the Bourbon Barrel fixture, Energy on Ice rink, Breakfast with Santa, Holiday Stroll and Hot Chocolate Hop.  44 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Tamarack Elementary School in Owensboro was named as one of four schools to receive the 2025 National Blue Ribbon from the U.S. Department of Education — an award for high performance — and will be honored at the Kentucky Board of Education meeting on December 4th.  44 News
  • The Owensboro Noon Optimist Club honored 12 top students from six local high schools at Briarpatch Restaurant on Wednesday—recognizing them for strong academics, school involvement, and community service. The event included speeches and awards read aloud to parents and counselors, underscoring the club's long-standing commitment to youth achievement.  The Owensboro Times

  • Kennedy Bridge overnight closures planned for this weekend have been postponed — crews are focusing on I-65 ramp work and scheduling additional closures next week.  WDRB

HEALTH NEWS

  • Local horse owners are on alert after horses that attended competitive speed events tested positive for the neurologic strain of equine herpesvirus 1. Although there are no confirmed cases in Kentucky, many barns have limited haul-ins and canceled shows to curb the spread—owners are urged to quarantine exposed horses for at least 21 days.  WOMI Owensboro

SPORTS NEWS

  • Owensboro’s team is off to a strong start in their pursuit of a 5A State Championship after dominating wins over Grayson County and Greenwood, and they will host Fairdale today in the quarterfinals. Coach DaMarcus Ganaway said the offense—led by DaMarcus Ganaway Jr. and Kingston Dillard—will focus on countering Fairdale’s run game, with Leron Jackson (102 tackles) proving a key challenge.  The Owensboro Times
