- ➤ The Daviess County Detention Center and local religious organizations are planning to deliver care packages to jail inmates this holiday season – the effort aims to bring festive comfort to those in custody. Owensboro Messenger-Inquirer
- ➤ Mark Higgs & Vince Buck, former Owensboro High School NFL players, will return on Dec. 27 at 10:30 a.m. to offer motivational talks, door prizes and a Q&A session at the school gym, helping youth see that success is within reach. - ➤ Fiddler Parker Malone and bluegrass instructor Randy Lanham performed acoustic Christmas tunes at the White House on Dec. 7 — the duo’s set featuring traditional carols and upbeat songs made them proud to represent Owensboro as the Bluegrass Music Capital of the World. The Owensboro Times
- ➤ Two Christmas concerts will take place Saturday, Dec. 13 at the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame & Museum. The events feature the Randy Lanham & Friends Christmas Jam at 3 p.m. and the Lanham Brothers Jamboree Christmas Show at 7 p.m., with both fundraising for Volunteer Owensboro. The Owensboro Times

- ➤ Apollo High School student Kassi Hirt was chosen as one of six to represent Kentucky for Civil Air Patrol’s National Legislative Day initiative in Washington, D.C. She will brief lawmakers today on the group’s mission — the official auxiliary of the United States Air Force. The Owensboro Times
- ➤ Kentucky’s free Pre-K for All initiative received support from 44 chambers, including the Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce, while the Henderson Chamber raised questions about funding and impact on private preschools; only 14,000 of 54,000 four-year-olds currently have preschool access. SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Apollo's Eagles overcame an early hiccup to win 63-50 over Trinity at home — Panthers beat Edmonson County 89-56 with Jonathan Moss scoring 30 and the Cougars lost 87-84 in double overtime to Webster County. Apollo will face Paducah Tilghman on Saturday and the Raiders will host Butler County on Friday. The Owensboro Times
- ➤ Owensboro Middle School’s 7th and 8th grade football teams finished with undefeated (12-0) seasons by winning the Southwest Kentucky State Tournament weeks before Owensboro High School ended a 39-year championship drought; Head Coach Greg Brown credits the strong pipeline for future success.
