  • Lottery officials will hand out free $2 coupons (while supplies last) at Kroger on Dixie Highway at 11 a.m. today as they promote the drawing for an estimated $1 billion Powerball jackpot.  WDRB
  • A new holiday brunch opens at Peppermint's Lodge in Riverpark Center in downtown Owensboro from Dec. 13, 14, 20, and 21, 10:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Guests choose from build your own brunch plates inspired by ski slopes that offer a special drink menu that can be made naughty or nice.  WOMI Owensboro
  • John Gray’s senior engineering students at Owensboro Innovation Academy finished a batch of Christmas toys for Wendell Foster clients Thursday afternoon (boosting toy accessibility for local families).  Owensboro Messenger-Inquirer
  • The 2025 Kids Count Data Dashboard shows that Kentucky’s 1.1 million children improved in 12 of 16 well-being measures (like economic support and education) while obesity, hunger and poverty remain high, especially in Eastern areas; researchers urge lawmakers to act when the new session begins.  WAVE

  • Empowerment Academy of Owensboro is hosting an open house today from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at 1606 Ohio Street to welcome new Operations Manager Elizabeth Criswell-Jordan, offering facility tours + complimentary lunch with bar-b-que sandwiches provided by Ole South.  44 News

FINANCE NEWS

  • The Diocese of Owensboro said its church pension plan, used since 1985, is about 40% underfunded and has started meetings with priests, school principals, and finance councils to address the issue. Final recommendations and more details will come in January.  The Owensboro Times

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Families can visit inmates at the Daviess County Detention Center until Dec. 23 — each inmate gets two 15-minute visits and will have a special Christmas dinner planned for the holidays.  14 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Kentucky will welcome its first medical marijuana dispensary on Saturday in Beaver Dam at 10 a.m. with a soft opening until 6 p.m. or while supplies last (products are grown by Farmtucky) to help patients access safe medical cannabis.  14 News

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Patti's 1880's Restaurant in Grand Rivers is famed for its homemade strawberry butter that visitors love, served daily from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. This small-town gem also offers pork chops & flowerpot bread, and its gift shop sells jars shipped Monday through Wednesday.  WOMI Owensboro
