  • Unhoused youth in school who are 18 can apply for housing at the new Empowerment Academy soon in Owensboro. The facility offers 18 bedrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, and key fob access to help students maintain stable living conditions while finishing high school.  14 News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Greater Owensboro Economic Development Corporation, the Kentucky Small Business Development Center, and the Chamber announced Plugged In, a four-part tech series for small businesses set at the Holiday Inn Owensboro Riverfront on Jan. 27, Feb. 24, Mar. 17, and Apr. 21, featuring hands-on tech instruction + lunch.  The Owensboro Times
  • Ford announced Monday it will repurpose its Glendale battery plant to make advanced battery energy storage systems — a change that will lay off about 1,600 workers, though affected employees can apply for future roles — with new capacity set to be online in 18 months.  WAVE

  • The Owensboro Museum of Fine Art adds a replica Underground Railroad quilt by local artist Mattie Jones for an educational program at RiverPark Center — the exhibit will help school kids learn about local history and invite community members to engage with Owensboro’s heritage.  Owensboro Messenger-Inquirer

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Kentucky Wesleyan College signed a formal agreement with the McNeil Center for Early American Studies to expand undergraduate research and strengthen early American history programs.   • UK Cooperative Extension in Daviess County shared a Lasagna Soup recipe that serves seven with lean ground beef, marinara sauce, and spinach. SPORTS NEWS

  • The Owensboro Catholic swim team won a quad meet over the weekend, scoring 238 points and beating Henderson County with 211, Owensboro with 131 and Apollo with 38. The Lady Aces won several relay events and coach Sean Jackson praised the teams for their improved times.  The Owensboro Times
  • The Owensboro Times today announced the 2025 Girls’ Golf All-OT Team and Golfer of the Year finalists selected by local high school coaches; the winner will be honored at an awards ceremony in May.  The Owensboro Times
