COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Mayor Tom Watson has led his nearly 20-year Christmas caroling tradition at the Daviess County Detention Center with local faith leaders, musicians, and community members who sing carols and share testimonies with inmates. A new service for female inmates is scheduled for today (organized by a local rehabilitation ministry).  The Owensboro Times
  • On Monday morning, Owensboro police officers + family members worked in the OPD community room to serve holiday meals as part of Operation Santa.  Owensboro Messenger-Inquirer
  • Nonprofit organizations in Daviess County can apply for the Trash for Cash program - a local effort to beautify the area and earn funds - with applications accepted now.  Owensboro Messenger-Inquirer
  • Local chef Lindsey Carrico will launch a new food truck on Christmas Eve to serve meals for those in need in our community. Her passion for cooking began in middle school + the truck aims to brighten the holiday for the overlooked.  Owensboro Messenger-Inquirer

  • Hammer & Stain will close its Owensboro craft studio in January. Final open days are scheduled Jan. 2 to 3, Jan. 7 to 10, and Jan. 14 to 16 from noon to 6 p.m. with a 30% discount on all studio projects at 2845 West Parrish Avenue near Ollie’s Bargain Outlet.  The Owensboro Times

CULTURE NEWS

  • At WKU Basketball Star Wars Night today, the Western Kentucky Saber Guild entertained fans with a choreographed lightsaber duel and red saber tunnel at halftime—this group meets at Smothers Park and will resume practices in early spring following an invitation from a local viewer to host an annual tournament.  The Owensboro Times

  • On Dec. 22, McLean County swept its doubleheader in the Independence Bank Christmas Classic with strong plays by Layden Bozarth & Brooks Lynam, while Owensboro Catholic & Trinity both finished 1-1 as the Cougars now head to tonight's championship against Webster County.  The Owensboro Times
