  • Due to forecast freezing temperatures, the Daniel Pitino Shelter at 501 Walnut Street will open its emergency shelter in Owensboro on March 16 and 17. It will provide overnight shelter from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m. and free bus rides (Monday to Friday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.) by local transit.  44 News
  • Owensboro Home Expo returns this weekend at the Convention Center with 60+ exhibitors offering home improvement, construction, and landscaping services. The free event runs Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.  The Owensboro Times

BUSINESS NEWS

  • UniFirst says its Owensboro operation remains committed following a March 11 announcement that Cintas plans a $5.5 billion acquisition. The facility, recently expanded to 469,000 sqft, employs over 520 people — local leaders hope it remains a vital community asset as the deal moves toward a second-half closing.  The Owensboro Times

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Audubon Area Community Services’ Head Start program exceeded federal quality benchmarks in all three CLASS review domains (a feat reached by fewer than 20% of programs nationwide). The four-and-a-half-week review took place across Western Kentucky classrooms, including 60 sites partnering with county schools, and serves over 1,700 children.  The Owensboro Times

  • RiverValley Behavioral Health Children's Hospital has been named a 2026 Kentucky Hospital Association Quality Award recipient in the psychiatric hospitals category (its first award) on Saturday, March 14; the honor spotlights its commitment to quality care in the community.  Owensboro Messenger-Inquirer

  • According to Niche, Owensboro ranks 9th among 10 top family-friendly towns in the Evansville area, based on data from U.S. Census, FBI and other sources.   • Owensboro Catholic's Lady Aces lost 63-50 to Simon Kenton in the Clark’s Pump-N-Shop Sweet 16 quarterfinals today. Coach Michael Robertson said the team struggled in the second quarter but rallied after trailing by 24.  The Owensboro Times
  • The Owensboro Times announced its 2026 Girls’ Wrestling All-OT Team, featuring athletes from Apollo + Daviess County, on Saturday, March 14. Girls’ Wrestler of the Year finalists, chosen by local coaches, will be honored at an awards ceremony in May.  The Owensboro Times
