- ➤ World Champion gymnast Maggie Nichols will visit Owensboro on Thursday, October 2 for a community conversation hosted by New Beginnings Sexual Assault Support Services at the Jack Wells Center on the Kentucky Wesleyan College campus—she will also meet select elite athletes at Owensboro Gymnastics before the event. - ➤ A student’s report from a local speaking-up program led to Owensboro Police arresting 53-year-old Irene Nison Martinez Gomez on April 24 on multiple child sex abuse charges — including first degree rape and sexual abuse of minors — after investigators confirmed years of abuse by someone known to the victim’s family. 44 News
- ➤ DCSO officers arrested two Cadillac Motel residents on April 30 for meth trafficking and child endangerment after undercover detectives found drugs, a loaded handgun, and other evidence near unsecured drugs accessible to two children—further arrests and charges are expected. The Owensboro Times

- ➤ The Owensboro Symphony announced that its upcoming 60th season, presented by Owensboro Health, will begin with a five concert subscription series starting in October. The season will mark Troy Quinn’s ninth season with the orchestra and will include free community concerts on August 23 and October 3—plus a flexible ticket option for any three concerts at $170. 44 News

- ➤ City officials, firefighters and community members gathered Thursday morning to dedicate the expanded Walter Freeman Fire Training Center at 1323 Daviess Street — part of the $30 million Operation Firehouse initiative to improve local fire service training.
