EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Owensboro Community and Technical College secured $1.3 million for TRiO student support services over 5 years to help students meet eligibility criteria (first-generation, income eligible, or with a documented disability) as part of its 20-year celebration of the program. - ➤ Owensboro officials are considering a change to an old rule that bans backyard chickens after growing local interest, and City Manager Nate Pagan outlined a plan that would let residents keep up to five hens without roosters while requiring safe coop standards—public input will be gathered over the next few months. SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Battling the blistering heat, the Owensboro Western 10U Allstars beat Muhlenberg 5-0 and Butler County 4-3, the 11U team won 10-6 over Russellville, and the 12U team defeated Breckridge 6-3 then held off Elizabethtown 6-5 to claim their state titles. The 10U and 12U teams will play in regional tournaments in Crown Point while the 11U team will not, showing strong promise as they move forward — all wins mark significant state achievements.
