  • John Kirkpatrick competed in a pizza box folding contest against local realtor Matt Brown at PeezO’s Pizza as part of Owensboro Times Pizza Week — the shop is offering its special 'Ham Bam Thank you Ma’am' pizza.  The Owensboro Times
  • Glenn Funeral Home will host its 12th Glenn’s Give & Go drive-thru donation event on October 1 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.—it supports Saving Paws Animal Rescue of Kentucky and will accept donations inside until October 8 for those who cannot attend the drive-thru.  44 News
  • Independence Bank’s 11th annual Free Family Fun Day will be held at the Western Kentucky Botanical Garden on Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.—visitors can enjoy free family activities during the event.  Owensboro Messenger-Inquirer

  • Dierks Bentley returned to Owensboro on September 24th to launch his new bourbon ROW 94 Full Proof, which is distilled locally by Green River Distilling. The whiskey is now available nationwide and is made using premium grain, purified Kentucky limestone water, and cultivated yeast—highlighting his strong ties to the local bourbon tradition.  WOMI Owensboro
  • Elizabeth Thompson announced on Facebook on Sunday that Lizzie's Diner at 1420 Breckenridge St. will close on Oct. 3 when Red Swing Coffee will buy it—she said the building would then be empty.  Owensboro Messenger-Inquirer

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Kentucky Department of Education presented 13 awards at the 2025 Continuous Improvement Summit in Lexington and Owensboro High School plus Owensboro Public Schools received $500 checks for school improvement—officials said the honors recognize innovative teaching practices that benefit student learning.  TriStateHomepage.com

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Daviess County Sheriff’s Office Animal Control Unit is hosting a free pet microchipping event for dogs and cats at Yellow Creek Park on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.—Owensboro and Daviess County residents can attend by showing ID while officers scan pets for chips and answer questions about pet care.  The Owensboro Times
  • Two Daviess County lawmakers have drafted bills after the sale of a long-vacant juvenile justice property on KY54 exposed delays that leave parcels off the tax rolls—aiming to streamline the state’s surplus property process and require ballot votes for tax increases over 4%. They plan to present draft language at a committee hearing soon and will file the bills in January.  The Owensboro Times

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Green River District Health Department advised residents in Daviess and Henderson counties to be cautious of mosquitoes after confirming West Nile virus cases. Officials said three cases were reported in the Green River region this year — an increase from previous years.  Owensboro Messenger-Inquirer
